"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." |

From a humanist standpoint, the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 were a crime against humanity and the perpetrators must be caught and tried before the World Court. Bush's so-called "war on terrorism" will only fuel an endless cycle of war and retaliation. We live on a small planet with exhaustible natural resources, so it is time that we learn to settle our social, political, racial, economic, cultural and religious conflicts through diplomacy and legislation rather than through war and violence. This process must start in the United States, where oppressive international economic policies, weapons sales, diplomatic harassment, and support for both state-sponsored and covert terrorism, have been the main causes of resentment and anger on this planet. CNN and the corporate media are flag-waving cheerleaders in the "war on terrorism" and they do not present relevant background information or alternative viewpoints necessary to understand the root causes of this human conflict. The purpose of this page, therefore, is to fill in some of the informational gaps.
